Queen of the South is based on the book La Reina del Sur, written by author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. The Spanish telenovela of the same name stars actress Kate del Castillo in the role of Teresa Mendoza and became a hit. However, when the USA Network launched its own adaptation of the drama, Queen of the South became a global success and will soon premiere its fifth season.

Will Queen of the South season 5 get an early Netflix release date?
Queen of the South series one debuted on USA Network in June 2016 and arrived on Netflix in May 2017.
For the first three series, the pattern was a new season would start in June in America and then 11 months later, it would drop on the streaming service.
The wait for Netflix subscribers for season four was a little longer than usual as it came out in June 2020, a whole year after US fans had started watching.
This may not be the case though with the forthcoming season.
USA Network confirmed this week that Queen of the South is going to be getting an early release date.
While the show is normally out sometime in June, the show will return this time two months earlier.
A release date is not yet known but Queen of the South is going to be back for series five sometime in April.
This is also good news for international fans as the show’s script supervisor teased how it could be out sooner than normal.
Taking to a Facebook fan page, Barry Caldwell revealed how the wait may be shorter this time around for Queen of the South season five to be released on Netflix.
Caldwell posted: “Regarding Netflix and non-US broadcast TV, we have no idea [of a release date].
“In the first four seasons, we hit Netflix one year after the TV premiere. That would normally put the Netflix premiere in April 2022.
“HOWEVER, we are trying to get it pulled up sooner. This is all we know at the present time.”

So while Netflix still may not get its hands on series five this year, the latest premiere date would be April 2022.
This would be the earlier start date yet, given how the previous seasons have begun in either May or June.
Hopefully, more will be revealed following Queen of the South series five starting on USA Network.
If you’re eager to watch the latest episodes as soon as possible, Caldwell did provide an alternative.
The script supervisor added: “If you can’t wait for the free Netflix release, each episode will be available for purchase on iTunes, YouTube and Amazon shortly after airing on USA.”
Each episode costs £2.49 via Amazon Prime with an entire series priced at £14.99.
However, only the first three series are ready to buy on Amazon Prime UK, with season four still not on the streaming service.
Queen of the South is available to watch on USA Network and Netflix.
