Many Countryfile viewers weren’t impressed on Sunday night, when the latest episode of the BBC nature show featured multiple old clips. As the show began, presenter Joe Crowley revealed that much of the show would be made up of a compilation of clips from the “Countryfile archives”. Upon hearing this, viewers quickly took to Twitter to complain about the repeat segments.

Joe began by explaining what viewers could expect to see in the episode.

He said: “I’m on my way to Isle Martin on the west coast of Scotland which sits at the mouth of Loch Broom, some three miles north west of Ullapool in Wester Ross.

“They’re getting ready for something rather special on this island – a festival for seaweed,” the presenter explained.

He went on to detail which repeat clips would be aired during the episode: “While I’ll be getting to know my seaweed, I’ll also be diving into the Countryfile archive to take a tour of our islands.

“Like the time Anita was in Kerrera in the Scottish Inner Hebrides on a special post round.

“When Ellie paddled her way to Church island to discover the legend of Ireland’s patron saint.

“And when Adam went to the Orkney Islands to meet some rare breed sheep who survive on an unusual diet,” the presenter added.

As viewers realised that large chunks of the programme would be repeat clips, many took to Twitter to complain.

One Countryfile fan fumed: “It’s a copy and paste version of #countryfile … the high paid presenters obviously fancied a week to put their wellies up.”

“They couldn’t be bothered making a full programme this week then… #countryfile,” another remarked.

“Nah can’t be bothered tonight, seaweed talk just isn’t entertaining enough and I don’t want to watch re-runs #countryfile,” a third added.

“Archives = more repeats… #countryfile,” another frustrated viewer wrote.

Meanwhile, some BBC viewers suggested that the content wasn’t worth the cost of the licence fee.

One wrote: “#countryfile I paid my license fee back in 2016 so okay to leave it this year #repeats.”(sic)

“June 2017 #countryfile bottom of the barrel now should get a refund on my TV Tax #countryfile,” another added.

The episode description in the TV guide detailed the content of the episode, highlighting that parts of the programme would be repeat clips.

It reads: “Joe Crowley presents a compilation of stories from the archives from Isle Martin in Scotland, where he meets the only resident and helps prepare for a seaweed festival.

“Featuring Anita Rani meeting female farmers in the Inner Hebrides, Ellie Harrison taking a trip to Church Island in Northern Ireland, and Margherita Taylor surveying seals off Looe Island.

“Plus, a chance to catch up with Mari Huws on Bardsey Island, just off north Wales’s Llyn Peninsula.”

Countryfile airs Sundays at 7pm on BBC One.
