‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’: Alaska Opens up About Snatch Game – ‘It Was so F***ing Boring’

RuPaul’s Drag Race features a wide assortment of challenges for drag queen contestants to show off their skills. Some of the challenges change from one season to the next, but Snatch Game is one of the show’s staples. The celebrity impersonations have the potential to be absolutely hysterical and the quality of their performances follow the queens throughout their careers. Alaska recently expressed her thoughts on filming Snatch Game.

Alaska has a great ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Snatch Game track record

Snatch Game has been a RuPaul’s Drag Race challenge ever since season 2. Alaska first starred in season 5, where she reached the finale. She chose to impersonate RuPaul’s longtime friend and fellow drag queen, Lady Bunny. Alaska earned a high placement but lost the challenge to Jinkx Monsoon‘s Little Edie.

Alaska returned for RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2. She once again proved her impressive improv comedy chops, but she earned a win this time around. Alaska’s Mae West performance earned her the Top All Star of the week alongside Katya’s Björk. The season 5 queen has now impressed the judges and the world in two Snatch Game challenges, which is an impressive feat.

Alaska said that Snatch Game was ‘f***king boring’

Alaska recently released her memoir titled My Name’s Yours, What’s Alaska? A Memoir. She wrote about her time filming the Snatch Game on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Alaska agrees that the challenge is fun to watch, but that it isn’t nearly as fun to perform.

“One of the best episodes to watch but one of the most boring to film,” Alaska said. “It was so f***ing boring. You don’t have a live audience. The only person you have to make laugh is RuPaul, which is great, but she’s paying attention to only one person at a time. It’s like performing in a vacuum. There was no way to know if you were doing well or not.”

However, Alaska disagrees with one of the major judges’ critiques. They told her that her voice didn’t capture Lady Bunny, but the season 5 contestant says otherwise. Nevertheless, Alaska still received high placement and fans regularly recall the queen’s hilarious Snatch Game performances.

“I came in with the vague idea to do Lady Bunny,” Alaska said. “I’d never done her before, and I didn’t prepare. I thought I did a good job, but the judges said my voice didn’t sound like Lady Bunny. I disagreed.”

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ fans are most excited about the challenge

Audiences are always ecstatic for the RuPaul’s Drag Race Snatch Game challenge. Some of the queens are hesitant about the challenge, but the fans love seeing the contestants impersonate a variety of celebrities. Not all of the chosen celebrities are widely recognized, although that doesn’t stop many queens from using their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent to impress the judges. However, several contestants have totally bombed the challenge.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under was heavily criticized for having one of the worst Snatch Game challenges in the show’s history. RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars switches things up with Snatch Game of Love, which is set up more similar to a dating show. This change started in All Stars 4.
