Stranger Things Star Appeared On Last Week Tonight, Before The Netflix Series Went Viral

Every actor has a beginning, as very few in the spotlight are found on the street, just hanging out. However, Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin–who plays Lucas on the hit Netflix series–has had a few odd jobs before his breakout success. And one of these is him singing a song about Washington D.C., the capital of the United States. Join us on a journey as we all do a double-take at someone in the background of a segment from five years ago.

On the August 2, 2015 episode of HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, Washington D.C. statehood was the main story topic. The segment closed with Oliver joining a group of kids on some steps, as they all sang a song. One of those kids is McLaughlin. Check it out below.

In case you missed it, McLaughlin is in the first row–closest to the camera–second from the left. And now, you can’t unsee him. Additionally, McLaughlin also appeared on ABC’s What Would You Do as a foster child as well as a couple police procedurals.

While McLaughlin appearing on Last Week Tonight is in no way a secret to the world–as the young actor tweeted about it five years ago–it’s really interesting to see some of the other jobs your favorite stars had before their breakout success.

And speaking of McLaughlin and Stranger Things, production on Season 4 began in February of this year, and like most other productions around the world, was halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The tag for Season 4 is “We’re not in Hawkins anymore,” possibly referring to the Russia sequences we’ve already seen or maybe we’re getting more from the world of the Upside Down. At this time, it is unknown when Season 4 of Stranger Things will hit Netflix.
