When Teddy (Kim Raver) appeared on Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 8, she seemed OK. She randomly had hallucinations of Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) alive around the hospital. That seemed like nothing new for a Grey’s Anatomy character.
However, by the end of “It’s All Too Much,” it was evident that something was very wrong. The surgeon’s ex-fiance, Owen (Kevin McKidd), took her home. The promo trailer for the next episode shows Teddy having many more hallucinations. Could viewers see a former fan-favorite character return next week?
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 Next Episode shows a distraught Teddy Altman
Teddy and Owen tried their best to save Andrew DeLuca in Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 7. A human trafficker stabbed him, and his injuries were too severe. He lost too much blood and died, although the surgeons did everything they could.
Although Teddy made it through a day of work, she broke down after DeLuca’s memorial. In the next episode of Grey’s Anatomy, things look very dark for Teddy.
“She hasn’t spoken,” Owen says in the promo trailer. “She hasn’t eaten. If something doesn’t change soon, I’m going to have to get her admitted.”
In the scenes from the next episode, Teddy hallucinates in numerous different settings. She sees DeLuca and hopes that maybe she can bring him back to life. She also speaks with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), who is also unconscious.
“The only time I’ve ever seen that kind of look, it’s in soldiers,” Owen adds. “And plenty of them never came back.”
Teddy could see Henry in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 Episode 9
Fans are hopeful that Henry Burton (Scott Foley) returns to Teddy in Grey’s Anatomy. Henry and Teddy fell in love unexpectedly in season 7. Since he needed ongoing treatment at the hospital, but his insurance could no longer pay for it, Teddy married him. She comforted him and took care of him until his death in season 8.
“What if Teddy sees Henry next week in her hallucinations?” one fan asked on Reddit.
Other fans quickly chimed in, hopeful that Henry and Teddy are reunited for a short time again. It wouldn’t be out of the question since Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) appeared to Meredith in her unconscious state three times already.
“I’m trying to rationalize how it can be true and not have leaked,” another viewer wrote. “Because I need it to be true.”
What’s wrong with Teddy?
Viewers do not know precisely what is wrong with Teddy in Grey’s Anatomy. However, since Owen noted that he saw her symptoms many times before in soldiers, it could be post-traumatic stress disorder.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Teddy shows many of the symptoms of PTSD. It is a condition triggered by a terrifying event. Since Teddy witnessed the death of her close friend and co-worker, she fits that description.
“Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event,” the website explains.
