'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier': Sebastian Stan Laughed Through Nearly Every Take of 1 Scene

The finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiered on Disney+ on April 23. Anthony Mackie stars in the series as Sam Wilson/Falcon/Captain America, and Sebastian Stan plays Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier.

Daniel Brühl also appears in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Helmut Zemo. Brühl frequently improvised while filming the show, and one of his improvisations caused Stan to laugh through nearly every take.

Daniel Brühl improvised a scene in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, Zemo is imprisoned. In the third episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Bucky helps Zemo escape prison because he and Sam need help looking for the person responsible for recreating the Super Soldier Serum.

The three travel to Madripoor and pose undercover, and to do so Bucky must pretend to still be the Winter Soldier. While undercover, Zemo plays with Bucky’s chin.

Because Bucky is pretending to be under Zemo’s control as the Winter Soldier, he cannot object to this. It turns out Brühl improvised this moment in the Marvel series.

“That was improvised,” Brühl told The Hollywood Reporter. “And I knew how much Sebastian was suffering. There were a couple of takes where he couldn’t deal with it.”

Sebastian Stan confirmed he laughed through almost every take

After the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiered, Stan reminisced about the show on his Instagram story. The Marvel actor posted TikTok videos made by fans and shared behind-the-scenes photos and stories from filming the show.

While sharing memories about the show, Stan confirmed that he could not handle Brühl’s improvisations. On his Instagram story, he posted a screenshot from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier of Zemo messing with Bucky’s chin.

Stan captioned the photo, “Only one take (which is the one they used) where I didn’t laugh.”

The actors in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ were encouraged to improvise

In addition to improvising his scene with Stan, Brühl also improvised Zemo’s dance in a club in Madripoor. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Brühl shared that he enjoys working with Marvel because of the attitude on set.

“… that’s something I enjoy so much about working with Marvel in general. They create this atmosphere of looseness, fearlessness and joy. That’s the way it should be,” he said.

Brühl continued, “It’s such a gigantic project, and you’re almost surprised by how light, warm and welcoming the tone and vibe is on set. And that allows you to try things and not be restrained. So you go for some funky choices like dancing or the chin… So it’s nice that this is accepted and embraced.”

All six episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are available to stream on Disney+.
