The Harry Potter stars bewitching fans on Instagram – and pocketing a fortune in the process

HE recently smashed the world record for the fastest time to reach one million Instagram followers after sharing a selfie with his adorable baby daughter on the site.

But Harry Potter star Rupert Grint isn't the only cast member bewitching fans on the social media platform.

Experts have revealed actors from the films can net a quid-ditch or two (or tens of thousands) per post – leaving them needing their own vault in wizarding bank Gringotts.

New research by OnBuy Movies reveals Rupert's co-star Emma Watson could earn up to £184,000 for a single sponsored Instagram post thanks to her nearly 60million followers.

The 30-year-old, who rose to fame portraying young witch Hermione Granger, often comments about gender equality, the Black Lives Matter movement and sustainable fashion on the site.

And other cast members could rake in a fortune per post, too – from Emma's close pal Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) to hunky actor Matthew Lewis, who played accident-prone Neville Longbottom.

"Companies often team up with influencers either to gain social media followers, revenue or to raise brand awareness," social media specialist Helena Papakosta tells us.

"They tend to pay celebrities or online influencers thousands of pounds to have a good quality picture with their products posted on the influencers’ social media accounts.

Companies are often looking for Hollywood stars with millions of followers, like the Harry Potter cast, to do paid partnerships

"For this reason, companies are often looking for Hollywood stars with millions of followers, like the Harry Potter cast, to do paid partnerships."

Researchers analysed the cast members' enormous Instagram followings to work out their potential estimated earnings per sponsored post.

However, they couldn't do one of the wizarding franchise's most famous faces – Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry himself – because he doesn't have Instagram.

Here, we reveal the Harry Potter stars who topped the list:

Emma Watson

Plays: Hermione Granger

Instagram followers: 58.9m

Potential earnings: £184k

It could buy you a house, a luxury sports car or even a yacht.

Actress Emma Watson could earn a whopping £184,357 for just ONE sponsored post on Instagram, according to the new research.

Though her official profile is currently listed as "dormant" and "not being updated", she's still by far the most followed Harry Potter cast member.

She boasts a cool 58.9million followers – more than Victoria Beckham (28.8million), Cara Delevingne (43.9million), and Barack Obama (34million).

"Emma's aesthetically pleasing Instagram account has turned her into a fashion icon, as she is often promoting sustainable fashion brands – a trend that's a hit with millions of fans globally," says social media expert Helena.

"Aside from that, she also promotes activism and feminism – two practices which are also quite popular and can help her increase her following and engagement.

"Not to mention her Instagram account capitalises on important days – such as ‘International Women’s Day’ – and uses relevant hashtags which could put her account 'out there' and increase her following."

Any income Emma makes from sponsored posts will likely be just a drop in the ocean for her: the actress, who also stars in the 2017 film Beauty and the Beast and 2019's Little Women, is reported to be worth around £60million.

Tom Felton

Plays: Draco Malfoy

Instagram followers: 9.2m

Potential earnings: £28.8k

He plays one of Harry Potter's biggest enemies.

But that hasn't stopped Tom Felton, 33, from amassing an impressive 9.2million followers on Instagram (and a further 7.6million on TikTok).

Experts say he could now command a huge £28,796 per sponsored post.

"Tom often shares candid snapshots of his life on his Instagram account, from a video of himself singing to a picture of his dog, both of which could lead to a high engagement rate," says Helena.

The actor's recent posts include videos of him jamming with his guitar, watching the first Harry Potter film and hanging out with his beloved dog, Willow.

He's also shared a series of throwback images with his Harry Potter co-stars.

And last month, he was quick to comment on Rupert's first ever Instagram post, showing the actor cuddling his baby daughter, called Wednesday.

"Welcome Weasley, it’s about time. Love to Wednesday xx," wrote Tom, whose estimated fortune is said to be between £15million and £26million.

Rupert Grint

Plays: Ron Weasley

Instagram followers: 3.6m

Potential earnings: £11.3k

He may have only been on the 'Gram for several weeks, yet Rupert Grint could already command a reported £11,268 per sponsored post.

The actor, who plays Harry's redheaded best pal Ron Weasley, shared his first post on the platform on November 10, writing: "Hey Instagram….only 10 years late, but here I am. Grint on the Gram!

"Here to introduce you all to Wednesday G. Grint. Stay safe, Rupert."

The post, and cute accompanying picture, was met with a massive response – with Rupert amassing one million Instagram followers in just four hours and one minute.

Guinness World Records later said the actor had surpassed Sir David Attenborough's record (four hours and 44 minutes) for the fastest time to reach the milestone following.

Before Sir David, the previous record holder was actress Jennifer Aniston, who racked up one million followers in five hours and 16 minutes after joining the site in October last year.

Evanna Lynch

Plays: Luna Lovegood

Instagram followers: 3.2m

Potential earnings: £10k

Evanna Lynch actually corresponded with Harry Potter author JK Rowling long before she landed the role of quirky student Luna Lovegood.

The actress, born in County Louth, Ireland, was just 11 when she wrote to the mega-successful author about her love for the Harry Potter novels.

It wasn’t until later that Rowling, now 55, discovered the talented young fan she had been writing to had won the coveted part of Luna in 2006.

Today, Evanna – who has gone on to star in other films and TV shows – boasts countless fans of her own, with 3.2million Instagram followers.

She describes herself as an "actress and vegan activist".

Based on her popularity, Evanna could reportedly net £10,016 per sponsored Instagram post – adding to her estimated £2.9million net worth.

Bonnie Wright

Plays: Ginny Weasley

Instagram followers: 2.7m

Potential earnings: £8.5k

She was just 10 when she took on the role of Ron Weasley's flame-haired younger sister Ginny, who eventually marries Harry Potter.

But today, Bonnie Wright is a successful writer, director and producer who regularly shares stunning images with her 2.7million Instagram fans.

She also frequently speaks out about causes that are important to her.

Last year, Bonnie, now 29, modelled a bikini made from plastic bottles, and a red swimsuit, as part of the 2019 Fair Harbor swimwear campaign.

The star – who told her followers: "I’m wearing 11 plastic bottles" – was said to be "an advocate for the ocean and the mitigation of single use plastics".

Other Instagram snaps show her attending a Prada show, posing on a sandy beach, smiling with her dog and participating in Climate Week discussions.

Matthew Lewis

Plays: Neville Longbottom

Instagram followers: 2.5m

Potential earnings: £7.8k

He's undergone a magical makeover since his Harry Potter days.

Matthew Lewis, now 31, has left fans of the series swooning after transforming from geeky Neville Longbottom into a chiselled hunk.

In 2015, he caused a stir when he showed off his muscular new look in a steamy shoot for Attitude magazine – complete with rock hard abs.

And today, he continues to charm fans on Instagram – where the new research suggests he could rake in £7,825 for a single sponsored post.

But sadly for some, Matthew isn't single. He married his beloved partner Angela Jones in a romantic Italian destination wedding in 2018.

In a Twitter post at the time, one fan wrote: "OMG congrats!! Forever broken hearted but so happy for you! Wishing you guys a lifetime happiness" (sic).

James Phelps

Plays: Fred Weasley

Instagram followers: 2.3m

Potential earnings: £7.2k

He's one of the wisecracking Weasley twins from the franchise.

James Phelps, born in Birmingham, was just 14 when he and his twin brother Oliver auditioned for the roles of Fred and George Weasley.

They did so mainly, Oliver has said, “to get a day off school”.

Both dark-haired, they were offered the roles on the condition that they spent the next ten years with dyed red hair. And according to James, now 34, the ribbing he was going to have to put up with was karma.

In a 2012 interview, he said: “I used to walk to school with a boy called Andrew who had bright red hair.

“I used to tease him constantly about it. Then we got cast as the Weasley twins and had to dye our hair red for the next ten years. All the years of joking at Andrew’s expense just came back and slapped me in the face.”

James, who plays Fred in the film series, could reportedly command £7,199 per sponsored Instagram post thanks to his 2.3million followers.

Oliver Phelps

Plays: George Weasley

Instagram followers: 2.1m

Potential earnings: £6.6k

Oliver is older than twin brother James – by 13 minutes.

But on Instagram, he lags slightly behind, with a still envy-inducing 2.1million followers (which, experts say, could net him £6,573 per post).

Jason Isaacs

Plays: Lucius Malfoy

Potential earnings: £2.1k

Liverpool-born actor Jason Isaacs has a string of film credits to his name – from 2000's The Patriot and 2003's Peter Pan to 2018's Hotel Mumbai.

But he's arguably best known for his role as Draco Malfoy's father Lucius in Harry Potter.

In September this year, Jason, 57, posted a selfie with his on-screen son Tom Felton on Instagram to celebrate the younger actor's birthday.

He wrote: "In these strangest of dark days you’re always a ray of light to me. Thanks for making mischief, music and magic for this fan (and all the others too). Happiest of Birthday Bonanzas. Love ya kid. Fake Dad x."

Alfie Enoch

Plays: Dean Thomas

Instagram followers: 277k

Potential earnings: £867

As young wizard Dean Thomas, Alfie Enoch could often be found hanging out in the Gryffindor common room with his Hogwarts school pals.

But today, the actor is a 32-year-old hunk with an army of fans.

Alfie, who also stars as Wes Gibbins in the ABC legal drama How to Get Away with Murder, boasts more than 250,000 followers on Instagram.

However, some fans have expressed doubt over whether his profile is 'real' – because, unlike his Harry Potter co-stars' pages, Alfie's isn't verified.

The actor, from London, has also previously said: “I struggle with technology. I think it doesn’t like me because I think it knows I don’t like it."

If the profile is real, it could be a money-maker for Alfie – with experts predicting he could scoop £867 for every sponsored post.
