MISSION Impossible action hero Tom Cruise and his co-star Hayley Atwell have broken up after a year dating.
The US star, 59, and the Brit beauty, 39, split during filming for the new movie.
The blockbuster has been hammered by a string of delays and disasters, including several Covid shutdowns.
Their relationship appeared to be intensifying after they attended a number of high-profile events including Wimbledon.
But they have now agreed to be just “friends” as the seventh Mission Impossible instalment nears completion.
A film insider said: “It has been a very intense period of filming together.
“They really got on well – and they’re obviously both very good-looking Hollywood stars so it made for a good match.
“But as the latest film winds down they’ve decided to go back to being friends.
“Their filming schedules are very full-on, and Tom has a number of other commitments coming up and is always shooting around by private helicopter and jet so it just ran its course.
“But they’re still happy to work together. It’s a shame, but just one of those things. They still get on well.”
News of the pair’s romance emerged after a recording of 59-year-old Tom ranting on set about Covid breaches was leaked to The Sun.
Hayley, 39, was the Top Gun star’s first long-term partner since his 2012 split from former wife Katie Holmes.
Tom’s growing fondness for the Captain America actress is understood to have been a major factor in his eagerness to settle in the UK after the new flick.
One scene in the movie sees Hayley, playing Mission Impossible newcomer Grace, cuffed to Tom’s character Ethan Hunt.
Photos also showed the couple holding hands for realbetween filming scenes in Rome.
At the time a production source said: “Tom and Hayley hit it off from day one.
“Lockdown, and all the difficulties that came with it, brought them even closer and they’ve become fairly inseparable.
"They’ve been meeting up after hours, and she’s been to his London pad. They get on brilliantly, and both seem very happy.”

However, the couple’s relationship breakdown is the latest hitch on the movie which has been beset by delays and problems.
They include several Covid shutdowns which saw crew stranded abroad and an on-set row over rule breaches.
Tom’s £100,000 BMW X7 was also nicked, containing a priceless copy of his upcoming Top Gun sequel.
Tom and his co-stars, who include Simon Pegg, are set to stay in Britain to work on the eighth movie as they look to complete back-to-back films.
Hayley previously went out with model Evan Jones for two years until their splitin 2015.
Before growing close to Tom, she dated an English doctor.
She also famously hit out at disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, after he reportedly labelled her a “fat pig”.
