A new season of Westworld is nearly upon us, people, and you know what that means? The internet is about to be consumed with fan theories, and deep dives, and hot takes, and all the things that make watching a show like that fun. But, I have a confession to make: I need some help getting excited for the third season of this show. Like, someone, please, help a girl out.
My history with Westworld is complicated. This is an embarrassing thing to admit, but I watched the first season in one weekend. That’s literally 10 hours of TV, and I remember actually doing stuff in those two days. I was so obsessed that I had an episode playing in the background while I was curling my hair to go out that Saturday night. Nearly burnt my face off, but it was worth it, because the show was so damn good.
So naturally, I was LIT for season 2, especially when I found out the show was going to take viewers to new worlds. Don’t get me wrong, I love a howdy moment, but traveling elsewhere was a huge part of the appeal of new episodes. But about halfway through the season, somewhere between Shogunworld and The Raj, I found myself very… over it? Maybe it had gotten to the point where I was just a little too confused, or I wasn’t invested in the new storylines, but I couldn’t even bring myself to finish the season. It was a very sad moment for me.
But with season 3 dropping in the very near future, I’m not not down to try it again. Based on the new trailer, it seems like most of this round will take place in the human world, instead of the park. That might be enough to pull me back in. It’s like robots vs. humans, but even more scary than before because the robots are walking among us, instead of in a fictional world run by an old guy. Tessa Thompson could do just about anything and I’d buy in, so that’s a good start. There’s also a stray Hemsworth brother. Never a bad thing!
Plus, the internet is in a different place than it was when S2 aired. Game of Thrones is officially over now, and there’s a Westeros-sized hole in our hearts, where Jon Snow used to be. We need Westworld now more than ever. Here’s hoping it delivers.
