This evening’s (September 29) instalment of All Creatures Great and Small will shed further light on strict vet Siegfried Farnon (played by Samuel West). Season three, episode three is titled Surviving Siegfried and sees the irascible veterinarian treating a horse called River. Surviving Siegfried will also give audiences further insight into why he became a vet in the first place and his continued passion for his chosen profession.

Siegfried Farnon – Samuel West

Reprising his role as the experienced vet Siegfried Farnon is actor Samuel West with viewers seeing his softer side.

West is no stranger to screens with roles in Howard’s End, Van Helsing, Darkest Hour, and Notting Hill.

More recently, West has appeared in The Midwich Cuckoos, The Crown, and ITV’s Mr Selfridge.

Mrs Hall – Anna Madeley

Anna Madeley again steps into the role of the ever-suffering Mrs Hall, who has to deal with Siegfriend’s at times curmudgeonly manner.

Madeley has previously starred in Channel 4’s Deadwater Fell, Patrick Melrose, Anatomy of the Scandal, and The Crown.

James Herriot – Nicholas Ralph

Nicholas Ralph takes on the vet at the heart of the show James Herriot, who is learning about how to take care of animals and this year working with the Ministry of Agriculture on a bovine TB testing rollout.

Ralph has previously featured in The Devil’s Light and The Most Reluctant Convert with All Creatures Great and Small marking his biggest role to date.

Tristan Farnon – Callum Woodhouse

Callum Woodhouse returns as Siegfried’s carefree younger brother Tristan Farnon, who will be starting to take on more responsibilities.

Woodhouse is best known for his role as Leslie Durrell in the heartwarming ITV series The Durrells. He’s also starred in B&B, The Hoist, Father Brown and Cold Feet.

Helen Alderson – Rachel Shenton

Rachel Shenton is again Helen Alderson, James’ wife and a local farmer with the star being part of the show since the start.

Oscar winner Shenton has starred in White Gold, Switched at Birth, Hollyoaks, and Blood and Bone China.

Jeff Mallock – Jim Moir/Vic Reeves

Comedian Vic Reeves – also known as Jim Moir – plays Darrowby knacker yard owner Jeff Mallock and will be making a cameo in episodes three and four.

Diana Brompton – Dorothy Atkinson

Dorothy Atkinson portrays Diana Brompton after parts in Pistol on Disney Plus, Magpie Murders, and Pennyworth.

Atkinson will next be appearing in Without Sin and Stonehouse which is post-production, according to IMDb.

Colonel Merrick – James Fleet

James Fleet is Colonel Merrick after parts in Mr Turner, Sense and Sensibility, Outlander, The Vicar of Dibley, and Belgravia.

Some of Fleet’s further roles include Dodger, Bridgerton, The Water, The Lost King, and Unforgotten.

Gerald Hammond – Will Thorp

Gerald Hammond is portrayed by Will Thorp after starring in Roslund & Hellström: Cell 8, A.D. The Bible Continues, and Coronation Street.

George Pandhi – Kriss Dosanjh

Kriss Dosanjh is George Pandhi with credits in This Is England, Dirty Pretty Things, Casualty, The Larkins, Intruder, and Doctors.

Anabel Dinsdale – Ella Bruccoleri

Ella Bruccoleri takes on Anabel Dinsdale with All Creatures Great and Small marking her biggest role since Call the Midwife with the actress next starring in Hexengeddon, Extraordinary, and Polite Society.

Henry Dinsdale – Mark Noble

Mark Noble is Henry Dinsdale after featuring in Secret State, The Borgias, Emmerdale, and Coronation Street.

Anne Chapman – Cleo Sylvestre

Cleo Sylvestre is Anne Chapman and some of her past credits include Paddington, The Split, Bloods, and The Idris Takeover.

Fernley – Chris Kaye

Rounding off the cast as Fernley is Chris Kaye, who may be familiar to audiences for his roles in Edge of Extinction, the podcast series Journey of the Dead Man, and The Bagley Boys.

All Creatures Great and Small season 3 continues on Channel 5 tonight at 9pm
