Why is EastEnders not on tonight and when is it back?

EastEnders fans have been left in the lurch after the surprise collapse of Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty).

Whitney has been on hunger strike in an effort to gain people’s attention, and to ensure her abuser Tony King (Chris Coghill) does not win.

Viewers hoping to learn of her fate tonight will have to wait a little longer as EastEnders will not return for its trusted Friday slot – and here’s why.

Why is EastEnders not on tonight?

EastEnders is not on this evening due to Sport Relief taking over BBC One from 7pm.

Throughout the week, celebrities and members of the public have been taking part in challenges to raise money for the campaign.

Tonight, Gary Linekar and Paddy McGuinness will front the televised extravangaza which will feature the highlights of challenges, skits and much more.

When is EastEnders back on?

EastEnders will resume its normal timetable as of next week, returning on Monday 16 March at 8pm.

Fans who are panicking about being short-changed, fear not – the soap’s bosses made sure viewers did not miss out on any Walford drama with a double bill on Thursday.
