Why is Good Morning Britain not on today?

GOOD Morning Britain is the staple of weekday morning telly.

But some viewers may be wondering why the ITV breakfast show isn't on today (December 27, 2021).

Why is Good Morning Britain not on today?

Fans waking up this morning will notice the ITV breakfast show isn't on.

ITV bosses pulled flagship show Good Morning Britain off air between Christmas and New Year amid Covid fears – in an unprecedented move.

Telly chiefs made the call amid mounting concerns among staff and presenters.

Instead kids show Hotel Transylvania will be on ITV.

GMB was already set to be off air today and tomorrow (December 28, 2021).

This is because Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on weekend days so the Bank Holidays are observed on the following two days.

What other days will GMB be off air?

GMB will be off air over the Christmas and the New Year break, starting from today (December 27, 2021).

It is the first time the morning news show has been ditched from the schedules.

A spokeswoman confirmed: “GMB was due to be on air from Weds 29th – Fri 31st December 2021 but due to the pandemic and to protect our teams, we have decided to give them an extended break.

“GMB will not broadcast next week, but will be back on air on Tues 4th Jan 2022.”

When will GMB return?

GMB will return in the New Year.

You can catch the action from 7am on January 4, 2021.

When the show is back, it will be business as usual – which includes the daily news, plus entertainment and weather.

What can we expect from GMB in the New Year?

The Sun exclusively revealed how veteran TV presenter Richard Madeley is joining GMB in the New Year.

Richard has been a stand-in presenter on the ITV show breakfast show since 2017.

He previously filled in for Piers Morgan when he was off on annual leave and during the holidays.

It is believed Richard will join GMB on January 4, 2021, and will be joined by co-host Susanna Reid.

Richard is of course a stalwart for hosting morning telly and is well known for being a presenting duo with his wife Judy Finnigan.

Together they hosted This Morning from 1988 until 2001.

After this, they fronted chat show Richard & Judy on Channel 4 until 2009.
