Petition Launched to Rename New York Street to "KMD-MF DOOM Way"

A petition has been launched to rename a street in Long Beach, Nassau County, New York after the late MF DOOM.

Initiated by professor, public and social sector leader and Long Beach native Dr. Patrick Graham, the petition requests that the City of Long Beach rename the East Hudson Street block between Riverside Boulevard and Long Beach road to “KMD-MF DOOM Way” in honor of the artist who grew up in Long Beach.

“Hip-hop leaders credit Mr. Dumile as one of the most prolific rap artists of all time. His life served as an example of inclusive community building and growth through individual struggle. Long Beach profoundly influenced his adolescents,” the petition read. “Mr. Dumile represents the ability to grow through tragedy and unite people around common themes. We need more individuals like him during this time of political and social divisions. Mr. Dumile still inspires many young people to view the potential of everyday life. Long Beach should be proud of its native son and honor him and his legacy on a street sign. Just as important, the city should embrace the unity Mr. Dumile represents for generations to come.”

MF DOOM, real name Daniel Dumile, died on October 31, 2020 but it was not announced by his wife until December 31 of that year.

Fans can take a look and sign the petition on the Change.org website.

Elsewhere in music, Daft Punk officially announced their split.
