A woman has revealed she got married in the infamous Zara polka dot dress – and dubbed it the ‘perfect’ frock for her special day.

Shoppers have claimed to be ‘obsessed’ by the monochrome high street piece, with some hailing it ‘the dress of the season’.

Popular fashionistas like Zoe Sugg, Lily Pebbles and Hannah Gale have all been spotted in the sought after frock, which has a flowing, relaxed fit, ruffled hem and costs just £40.

There’s even an Instagram account dedicated to the dress, Hot4TheSpot, where fans can share photos of them modelling it.

And it was here where Gulnaz Khusneeva, of Kazan in the central Russian republic of Tatarstan, revealed she wore the dotty frock to marry her graphic designer husband Azat, 33, in May.

The pair have been together four years and were in no rush to get wed, after being engaged by their local Muslim cleric, which is custom in their culture.

But when they discovered Gulnaz was pregnant during a trip to London for New Year’s Eve in 2018, they decided to become husband and wife before they welcomed their first child.

Gulnaz, a CEO of a children’s clothing company, said she was quite happy to wear something ‘old’ to the wedding, but her sister wasn’t having it.

Gulnaz revealed she wore the dotty frock to marry her graphic designer husband Azat, 33, in May on the @hot4thespot Instagram page

‘I’m a hard working person and I didn’t care about our wedding,’ Gulnaz told HuffPost UK.

‘I thought, “It’s just a formality” – we had lived together four years and it was just for our baby. I wasn’t going to buy a special dress, just wear something old of my own.’

She said her sister ‘forbade’ her from going to the registry office in an old dress and bought her a new one the day before – which turned out to be the viral Zara frock.

Luckily it hasn’t proved quite as popular in Kazan, as none of her 25 wedding guests were wearing the same outfit.

Gulnaz teamed her dress with white mules and a simple bouquet, while her groom wore trainers to the casual affair.

Fellow fans of the cult Zara dress raved over Gulnaz’s wedding dress choice, with one dubbing her a ‘legend’

She said she felt ‘happy’, adding: ‘I didn’t need anything else: my husband, my close friends and my perfect wedding dress.’

Gulnaz admitted she only found out the dress has a cult following in the UK three months later, when her other sister sent her an Instagram link asking if it was the same one.

It was then she shared a snap to the Hot4TheSpot Instagram page, where fellow fans raved over her wedding dress choice.

One commented: ‘Aw love this! I got engaged in it and love love love that it has featured as a wedding dress.’

‘What a legend,’ wrote another, while one simply posted: ‘RESPECT.’

Gulnaz told HuffPost UK she intends to wear the dress for another special occasion – discharging from the maternity hospital, which is likely to be any day now as she’s nearing her due date.

‘Historically important days in our family are associated with a magical dress from Zara!’ she said.
