Five rarest 50p coins as one is worth £721 – you could have it in your pocket

Rare coin collectors will have an idea of what to look in a bit of change.

It could be that there's an error on the money, or there's a limited amount of them around.

Now when it comes to a 50p coin, there's a lot of different designs out there worth serious money.

Here are five rare coins which can sell for more than their face value.

1. Kew Gardens 50p – £721

One of the rarest 50ps out there is the Kew Gardens coin.

Often bidders will try their absolute hardest to get their claws on one as they're popular among collectors.

Also it's because only 210,000 of them were released into circulation which makes them one of the most sought after coins.

We've seen a rare Kew Gardens coin sell for around £200-£300, but some could reach even more.

Recently, a rare coin with a minting error flogged for as much as £721 on eBay.

This coin was created to commemorate the 2012 Olympics and it's among the rarest as it features an explanation of the offside rule.

There were just over one million put into circulation and recently one sold for £31 on eBay.

Over 1.16 million of these Judo coins were put into circulation in 2011 to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games.

It shows two athletes locked in a judo fight, with one throwing their opponent to the floor.

Previously, a seller managed to scoop £27 on eBay for a copy they had of the coin.

The Triathlon 50p coin was also from the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

It shows athletes doing the three sports – swimming, cycling and running.

Only 1,163,500 were put into circulation in 2011.

Around 1.13 million of these coins entered circulation in 2011.

The 50p coin shows two athletes wrestling in front of a crowd, with one being thrown to the ground.

Complete with its Olympic card, this 50p can sell for around 30 times its face value, if not more.
