I’m fighting in the courts to see my little girl and yet my ex gets legal aid

DEAR DEIDRE: EVERY penny I have goes towards court costs. I’m fighting to see my little girl and yet my ex gets legal aid.

I’m 38 and far from rich. When my relationship broke down, my ex refused to let me see my daughter. She’s 35 and my daughter is seven.

I’ve not seen her in months. I got a court order to prevent my ex moving from England to Scotland but she went anyway. Now I’m spending money again to get an independent review into this.

It seems so unfair. It looks as if I won’t see my daughter until she’s old enough to make her own decisions about seeing me.

The law doesn’t seem right.

DEIDRE SAYS: Ultimately it is the children who get the raw end of the deal when couples go through bad break-ups. Try to reason with your ex. Rather than battling through court, make contact with her and explain how important it is for your daughter’s self-esteem and her overall wellbeing to have a relationship with you.

My support pack When Parents Fall Out explains the impact this is having on your child.
