Inside highest McDonalds in the world where you can eat burgers at 12,139ft

Tibet just opened its first McDonald’s outlet – and it’s the highest in the world.

Locals in the capital of Lhasa can now tuck into burgers at a whopping 12,139ft.

This is more than double the height of the UK’s tallest peak Ben Nevis, which stands at 4,379ft.

The fast food joint is located opposite Potala Palace, a UNESECO World Heritage site that has been the winter palace of the Dalai Lama since the 7th century.

It’s a key symbol of Tibetan Buddhism and also attracts scores of tourists every year.

Other popular attractions that are nearby include the Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery and Norbulingka Palaces.

So to cater to visitors of Lhasa, McDonald’s has reportedly hired 60 members of staff to meet the demand.

Even though the McDonald’s restaurant has only just opened, local media says customers have already been queueing up for food.

Just like Maccies at lower altitudes, punters can use services like self-service ordering and mobile payment.

While we can’t find a menu for the outlet online, pictures have emerged of customers tucking into food.

Just like McDonald’s in the UK, fries, burgers and Happy Meals appear to be popular so far.
