Kristen Stewart opens up about her sexuality

Kristen Stewart says that she’s been “cagey” in the past about her sexuality.

“The first time I ever dated a girl, I was immediately being asked if I was a lesbian,” the 30-year-old actress told InStyle magazine. “And it’s like, ‘God, I’m 21 years old.’”

She told the publication that the media attention she got early in her career, when she was seen out some of Hollywood’s hottest men, may have “hurt people I’ve been with.”

“Not because I felt ashamed of being openly gay but because I didn’t like giving myself to the public, in a way,” she continued. “It felt like such thievery. This was a period of time when I was sort of cagey.”

Stewart explained that her caginess drove her to try to avoid the limelight during her romances with men.

“We did everything we could to not be photographed doing things — things that would become not ours. So I think the added pressure of representing a group of people, of representing queerness, wasn’t something I understood.”

Stewart, 30, became an overnight sensation starring in the “Twilight” franchise and embarked on a high-profile romance with co-star Robert Pattinson.

In 2012, she was photographed with her “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders who was nearly two decades older than Stewart and married at the time. Pattinson and Stewart split up, then reconciled, but eventually parted ways in 2013.

She then went on to date visual effects producer Alicia Cargile and model Stella Maxwell. The “Charlie’s Angels” actress is currently in a relationship with screenwriter Dylan Meyer. Last year, Stewart told Howard Stern that she is in love and “can’t f–king wait” to get married to her girlfriend.

In the upcoming rom-com “Happiest Season,” Stewart stars opposite Clea Duvall, as a gay couple home for the holidays at Duvall’s conservative family home.
