Nancy Pelosi Ripped Up Donald Trump's State of the Union Speech

President Donald Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday night was unsurprisingly met with resistance from Democrats in Congress. Not the least among these often subtle protests came from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Despite inviting Trump to give his speech – an honor that is at her discretion – the Speaker had several moments of clear disagreement and even protest.

For starters, she joined other women in the house who wore all white to celebrate the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote. She also donned what some called her "power pin" on the left lapel of her blazer. She famously debuted the accessory during Trump's first impeachment hearing.

She was then seen visibly disagreeing with many of Trump's points during the speech, at some points mouthing "not true," or shaking her head no. Pelosi remained seated during most of the address.

After the speech was over and before Trump walked away (here's where things got theatrical), Pelosi picked up the copy of Trump's speech that was given to her in the beginning of the evening and ripped it in two pieces.

When asked why she ripped the paper she reportedly told reporters it was "a courteous thing to do considering the alternative. It was such a dirty speech.”
