Mean Girls star Lacey Chabert has announced the passing of her sister Wendy Chabert, aged 46.

Lacey shared the devastating loss on Instagram as she shared a photo of her sister alongside a heartfelt post as she wrote: "My beautiful sister, Wendy.

"Our hearts are shattered into a million pieces that I don't know how we will ever put back together again now that you're gone.

"We love and adore you more than we can ever say and we will continue to forever and ever and ever.

"The shocking loss has left us so broken hearted. Our lives will never be the same without my dear sister, but we cling to the promises of Jesus that we will be together again in eternity.

"Please keep our family, especially her two boys, in your hearts and prayers. Thank you so much."

Heartfelt messages flooded Lacey's Instagram as people shared their devastation for the actress.

One person wrote: "I am so so sorry Lacey. Sending you and your family my deepest condolences and you are all in my thoughts and prayers."

Another read: "My gosh. This is heartbreaking. So sorry for your loss. Sending huge love to you all."

A third said: "Oh, Lacey. I am so incredibly sorry – I don't even know what to say. Praying for your family and sweet Wendy."

Wendy's cause of death hasn't been confirmed.

Lacey would often share photos of herself and her sisters, particularly from her childhood.

It was only weeks ago that Lacey shared a snap of herself, her sister Crissy and their late sister Wendy as children stood in front of the Christmas tree.

She wrote: "Couldn't let National Sisters Day pass without saying how much I love my two sisters.

"They are the best big sisters ever and I think God for them every day. Love you Wendy and Crissy."

The siblings appeared incredibly close and Lacey would often talk about her siblings online.

Wendy is survived by her two children, whom Lacey has asked to be kept in people's hearts and prayers following Wendy's untimely death.
