All Creatures Great And Small first aired on Channel 5 in early 2020 and the six-part series became an instant hit with viewers across the nation. Ahead of the release of season two, Actor Samuel West who played Siegfried Farnon opened up about his painful experience on a farm.

Samuel detailed an incident he had with the farm animals and said: “I got trodden on by a cow.

“It’s not that they’re very big, it’s worse because they’ve got very, very small feet,” he added.

“As we know from basic physics, a big weight going through a very small area means a lot of pressure,” Samuel explained. “Cows can’t hit marks during filming either, because they get nervous.”

He stated: “If you move away from them, they don’t like knowing you’re not there, so they move towards you.”

The actor disclosed: “So as soon as you get the cow on its mark and walk away, it follows you and if you’re wearing wellies, which I was, when they tread on you it’s very painful!”

It’s clear to say scenes with animals remain unpredictable and don’t always go smoothly, especially large farm animals.

This edition of All Creatures Great And Small is the most recent onscreen adaptation of the novel written by Alf Wight.

The story follows a budding vet, James Herriot (played by Nicholas Ralph) as he relocated to Yorkshire to find work.

After accepting the opportunity to become a veterinary assistant at Siegfried’s practice, the series then focused on their working relationship.

Their friendship went through a number of hurdles but as an outspoken professional with a huge representation in Yorkshire, he remained well -respected and they were always able to get it back on track.

Samuel’s character is based on the real-life veterinary practice owner Donald Sinclair who hired Herriot as an assistant.

He is one of the fan-favourites for his ability to make viewers laugh. Although he can sometimes be the main source of conflict, Siegfried is full of humour.

In the recent episodes, fans watched as his younger brother Tristan Farnon (Callum Woodhouse) continued to lie about his results.

As he is not always focused on work at the practice, he occasionally found himself in trouble due to his carelessness.

This is unlike James, who was not afraid to dive in and get his hands dirty to complete a task.

Thankfully, All Creatures Great and Small was renewed for a second season which will be expected to hit the screens in 2022.

It was revealed Season two would consist of six episodes and a Christmas special and was being filmed in 2021.

Fans will have to tune into the series to see how Tristan will fair when his bother finds out the truth about his results.

Many believe he will volunteer the information, but others aren’t convinced as they seem to predict he will continue to go behind Siegfried’s back.
