Harry Styles isn't disappointed he wasn't cast as Elvis Presley

Austin Butler has been cast as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic of the King of Rock’n’Roll, beating out a host of young Hollywood’s hottest stars.

And Harry Styles, who was on the shortlist, isn’t bitter at all.

(We mean that sincerely.)

The 25-year-old was one of the stars considered to play Elvis in the upcoming film, alongside Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

But after Austin Butler was cast, Harry reckons he just wasn’t the right person for the role.

Speaking to The Face, the Sign Of The Times singer said: ‘I feel like if I’m not the right person for the thing, then it’s best for both of us that I don’t do it, you know?

‘[Elvis] was such an icon for me growing up. There was something almost sacred about him, almost like I didn’t want to touch him.

‘Then I ended up getting into [his life] a bit and I wasn’t disappointed.’

Luhrmann’s Harry-less biopic is set for release in 2021.

Another movie role Harry won’t be playing is Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid, after the former One Direction star was heavily rumoured to play Ariel’s love interest opposite Halle Bailey in the live-action remake.

However, this was all Harry’s choice, as he just wants to focus on his tunes for a while.

The Kiwi singer said: ‘It was discussed. I want to put music out and focus on that for a while. But everyone involved in it was amazing, so I think it’s going to be great. I’ll enjoy watching it, I’m sure.’

Won’t we all, Hazza.

Styles – who made his film debut in 2017’s Dunkirk – has been working on his eagerly anticipated second album, which involved taking magic mushrooms and is all about ‘sex and feeling sad’.

AKA the title of everyone’s 2020 mood board.
