Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) and his wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) were some of the most important characters in the early seasons of The Walking Dead, and Lori’s death in season three remains one of the most shocking moments of the entire show. Some sleuthing fans have now found an interesting blunder in one of the most iconic scenes between the couple.

In the second episode of season three, titled Sick, the group are clearing out a prison building and found another group of survivors who had been separated from the rest of the world for ten months and were unaware of the extent of the walker epidemic.

The two groups start fighting with each other and the walkers and in the commotion, Tomas (Nick Gomez) the leader of the other group, tries to assassinate Rick.

Rick retaliates and kills Tomas with a machete before striking a deal with the remaining survivors allowing them to occupy a different block of the prison.

After all the action, towards the end of the episode, Rick and Lori share a heartfelt moment.

Their relationship had been going downhill for a while, and while Lori was trying to strike up an intimate conversation with her husband, Rick shut her off and treated her like any other member of the group.

On a fenced-off prison catwalk, the two were standing next to each other looking into the distance.

After some small talk about cleaning up bodies the next day, Rick changed the topic saying: “For the record, I don’t think you are a bad mother.”

Lori replied: “Well wife is a different story. Better or worse right? I mean what are we going to do, hire lawyers and get divorced? Split out assets?” stealing a smile from Rick.

“We’d be dead if it weren’t for you,” he said.

Lori added: “You are the one that acted fast. If you hadn’t done what you did…,” but stopped for a moment before admitting: “I thought maybe you were coming out here to talk about us. Maybe there is nothing to talk about anymore.”

It’s in that pause that a fan on the forum site Movie Mistakes has now spotted a continuity error. One moment Rick is serious and looking into the distance, but as the camera cuts away to a different shot, he is now looking down and quite emotional.

This was one of the last meaningful conversations between the couple, and Rick couldn’t bring himself to treat his wife with affection.

He put his arm on her shoulder and said: “We are all grateful for what you did,” before walking away leaving a pregnant Lori alone crying.

Lori died only a few episodes later, leaving Rick absolutely distraught.

Later in the season he fell into a downward spiral and began hallucinating, imagining a series of phone calls with Lori and seeing visions of her in the prison courtyard.

Rick lasted a few more seasons on the show and later started a relationship with Michonne (Danai Gurira).
