MAYA Jama is one of the biggest TV and radio presenters in the UK at the moment.

The 28-year-old has jetted off to South Africa where she will make her debut as the new Love Island host for the winter series on January 16.

Who is Maya Jama?

Maya Jama is a presenter of Somali and Swedish descent who was born in August 1994.

She was named after civil-rights activist and celebrated poet Maya Angelou because her mum read the famous poem, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, during her pregnancy.

Maya made the move from Bristol to London aged 16 to pursue her broadcasting career, and set up her own YouTube channel as well as landing a gig as a presenter for JumpOff TV.

Maya then became the host of MTV's The Wrap Up, before moving on to host MTV Essentials and MTV News.

What does Maya Jama do now?

Maya is the new host of Love Island.

She was confirmed as the new ITV2 host after Laura Whitmore quit the ITV show.

Speaking about her new role, she said: “I’ve always been such a massive Love Island fan and I’m so excited to be hosting one of the nation’s favourite shows!

"I can’t wait to get into the villa to meet all of the Islanders.”

She is set to appear in the winter version which starts on January 16.

During lockdown in 2020,  Maya co-hosted Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer alongside the former England football star.

The duo combined again in 2021 for Crouchy's Year-Late Euros.

At the end of 2021, she hosted Simon Cowell's talent show Walk The Line.

Aside from her TV work, she has enjoyed success with fashion collections with PrettyLittleThing and JD Sports and has modelled for brands such as Adidas and Maybelline.

What is Maya Jama's net worth?

Maya has previously revealed that she became a millionaire at 24.

The popular presenter lives in a plush London home, which she bought with her hard-earned cash.

It is reported she has a net worth of an estimated £ 1.5 million.

There is no doubt that this will increase with her new role as the Love Island host.

The former ITV2 host Laura Whitmore was thought to earn around £600,000 to present the show.

Who is Maya Jama dating?

Maya and her ex-boyfriend Stormzy were at the centre of reconciliation rumours when they were seen attending the GQ Men of the Year 2022 awards in November.

A source told The Sun, "Stormzy and Maya are together again. They’re taking it slow but are very much back in each other’s lives after a long time when they didn’t speak or see each other."

However, a rep for Maya insisted that the reports were "false" but that "Maya and Stormzy remain great friends."

Speaking to The Times in January 2023, Maya responded to the rumours, saying: "I’m really, really single right now. Newly single. It’s only been a month.. but it’s nice."

Maya had been dating basketball star Ben Simmons since May 2021.

They confirmed their romance in June 2021 when Ben shared a screenshot of an intimate FaceTime call he shared with Maya on his Instagram story.

Then, after much speculation, on January 11, 2022, the couple confirmed their engagement.

But in September 2022, it was revealed that the pair called it off following a "difficult time" over their conflicting schedules.

A source told The Sun: "It’s been a difficult time for them.
